About Aesop


Aesop and his fables go back a long way!
Historians believe he lived in
Ancient Greece about 2600 years ago. 

At that time, it was popular to make up stories about animals
to teach people lessons and
to talk about people when you didn't want them
to know you were really talking about them.

Probably most of Aesop's fables were not made up by Aesop
but by other people.  Over the years,
the fables got bunched together
under the name of Aesop's Fables
until nobody could remember who thought up the fables
in the first place.

Whoever made up the fables, though,
they have been making people think for a long time
and, once kids read them, they never forget them!
