The
first known MAZE--or LABYRINTH-- |
|
According to Herodotus, there were 3000 rooms in the maze, all made out of stone: 1500 above the ground and 1500 below the ground, including temples, courts, palaces and places for sacrifices to the Gods. |
The great Greek historian, Herodotus, who was born in 484 B.C., visited the labyrinth and wrote: "I found it greater than words could tell, for, although the temple at Ephesus and that at Samos are celebrated works, yet all of the works and buildings of the Greeks put together would certainly be inferior to this laybrinth as regards labor and expense." |

Outside of the great maze, was a pyramid and a man-made lake with two more pyramids rising out of it, each holding a giant statue. |
